EOCs

Wow. This year practically flew by. I can't believe I'm going to be a sophomore next year. Well, freshman year has gone somewhat smoothly (so far). I've managed to steer clear of drama (for the most part) and get good grades. But now, the road to summer gets a little bumpier.

The EOCs are just around the corner (I take the Geometry next Monday), and I can practically smell the stress in the air. I'm not as worried about the math as I am the Biology EOC, and don't even get my started on the AP exam. Summer is so close, but yet so far.

Monday, Go Away!

I hate Mondays. I don't know if it's because it's the beginning of the week or because I have so many assignments due, but I really can't stand Mondays anymore. From screaming teachers to annoying classmates, it seems like everyone waits til Monday to unleash all of their anger. The end of the year is supposed to be one of the happiest times, due to all the holidays and of course winter break. Lately, however it seems like everyone has chosen to be in a cranky mood, especially on Mondays! I don't understand why the beginning of the week always feels like this, but let's hope with colder weather and vacation approaching, people will be in better spirits.

Surviving High School: Homecoming Week

It's finally here- that week where you can come to school dressed like a banana, and no one would critisize you. Homecoming Week is definetly going to be one of my highlights of the year, because it's just non-stop fun.

At West Broward, our theme is "Let The Games Begin". Each grade was given a hallway to decorate wiht a certain theme (the freshman's: Harry Potter) and let me just say that they all look amazing. They were judged today, so I can't wait to find out the results.

Homecoming, in some ways, can be quite stressful. Especially this one, since report cards come out next week (ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh).

Anywho, Homecoming is a week of activities that is sure to be entertaining. (Tomorrow is Guess Who Day, where you have to dress like a celebrity).

All I have to say is, let the games begin.

The Woes of College Applications

It's finally that time. The past twelve years of schooling have prepared us for this moment. The summer before senior year has come and gone, and the time to face the rigorous torture that are college applications has finally come.

Do not fret, however. There are certain tips that will undeniably ease your stress when applying to college.

First, remember to take your time. College applications are long and tedious, and they require both your full attention and a sharp eye. This isn't just your English paper, guys. This is your future.

Something else to consider when applying to college that may make your life just a little easier is choosing to apply online. Most colleges offer an online application, and out of state schools often offer a supplement available on the Common Application website. (www.commonapp.org) Applying online can make things a lot simpler for you and your family, so taking advantage of this opportunity is most definitely in your best interest.

Talk to your friends and parents. Remember, you're not going through this alone. If your parents didn't go to college, then talk to someone who recently graduated and knows the process well. They may have tips for you to spruce up your application and really make it shine.

Finally, take a deep breath. Applying to college is probably one of the most stressful things you've gone through thus far, but it really isn't as horrible as you think it is. Remember, colleges are on your side. They want to admit new students who are excited about attending their school. If you stay positive and knock out those applications, everything will work out. It helps to think about the fact that you're on your way to some of the best experiences of your life.
