3D Movies, Worth the Extra Bucks?

I wasn't too thrilled about being dragged to the movies and paying $6 more than my usual fee for the film being in 3D.

We watched Captain America, and although I told her that there is nothing special about a 3D movie, my friend was dying to watch it because she thought it would make Chris Evans' muscles pop out. Yeah right, I knew that wouldn't happen.

I like seeing Chris Evans shirtless on the big screen as much as most girls out there, but paying $6 extra, didn't seem worthwhile to me.

Although after the movie my friends kept saying it was "so worth it" to watch it in 3D, I didn't get what the big deal was. It basically looked like it was in HD, yes a better picture quality, but nothing popped out, nothing worth paying almost double to see.

I've honestly seen better 3D quality at theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios. The IMAX Experience is also good, but the regular 3D most theaters are showing isn't impressive.

I don't know about other people out there, but at least to me, the current 3D quality that is being offered isn't something I would spend my time or money on again.

So...3D Movies, Worth the Extra Bucks?
I don't think so.

This weekend was one of the best I've had in a while. I love my life and everyone it.

Tired of the same old bands?

Then look no further. Already super popular around Europe, 3rd place winners in "The X-Factor'; the UK's version of "American Idol"; British-Irish boyband One Direction are slowly conquering the pop world. With their cheeky boyish charm and irresistible accents, it's no wonder Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik are already spreading like wildfire across the world. All the boys come from different parts of the UK, but Niall Horan is originally from Mullingar in Ireland.

The boys are known most for their covers  of songs on the X-Factor, such as "Forever Young" (originally sung by Jay-Z), and "Viva La Vida"by Coldplay. Their first single by the name of "What Makes You Beautiful" is already topping the charts in England. These One Direction boys are surely going places this year if their fame keeps up at this rate; they're just taking it one day at a time.

The Case of the Missing Umbrella

On Saturday, my friends and I decided to go to Aventura, to take our minds off of all the school work. There, we shopped, ate, and went to the movies. We had a great time. All was well until I got home and realized that something was missing...MY UMBRELLA! Now I know what you're thinking, "It's just an umbrella, you can always get a new one." Well not in this case. When you have an umbrella that's fuschia and black, zebra- patterned (the best colors and design in the world), and small enough to go anywhere, it's simply irreplaceable.

I panicked just thinking about all the places where my poor, dear umbrella could have been. As I began to mourn in disbelief, I got a call from my boyfriend. After telling him about what had happened, he laughed and said that I left my umbrella in his shopping bag. Not only was I relieved, but I couldn't believe that I did all that worrying for nothing.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

Ever since the beginning of school, it has felt like the summer has unexpectedly crept away and fall is slowly taking it's place. Even with the hurricane scares, Irene in our past, summer just seems like a nuisance rather than a celebration.

Today I could feel the early days of Fall. There was a swift breeze, and the palm trees made that wonderful sound they do when there are abrupt winds. The sun felt a little cooler in turn, and it was a perfect day for the pool, a great activity for Labor day. With these days in our past, and many more in our future, we'll slowly get used to the cooler temperatures, and of course, once November and December are present on our calendars, we'll without doubt be wearing two pairs of pants and the longest, thickest shirt we can find in our closets.

I always felt like Floridians exaggerated the cold. We're freezing in less than 65 degrees Fahrenheit weather while the folks up north and trying to dig themselves out of the snowstorm. It's always fun to talk about how ridiculous we act around the fall and winter seasons, but the truth is, most of us don't know what goes on farther up North!

A lot of my friends have been born and raised in South Florida, and only occasionally taking vacation trips north, never past St. Augustine or Georgia though. We don't know what the cold feels like, we don't know how to act around it. Sure, it may be a little over the top to wear leather gloves in 70 degrees weather, but if that's the only way to keep warm what else are we supposed to do? We're immune to the beating sun on our backs and the sticky humidity, it's in our blood. But snow?

What's snow?

Born Confused

Looking for a back-to-school-I-need-a-break-from-AP-English-book? This is it.

Born Confused by Tanuja Desai Hidier is refreshing look at a teenager's experiences with her foreign heritage and the modern world surrounding her. The author, a young British writer AND singer/lyricist, brings such charming and whimsical dialogue to the story. It's the farthest from cliche-book you'll ever read. Once I began, I couldn't stop! A quick synopsis:

Dimple Lala has lived in a world apart from her culture her entire life and has never thought twice. But when she is suddenly faced with complications she cannot resolve on her own, (Arranged marriage, anyone?) Dimple finds herself turning to people and traditions she finds so foreign, yet familiar. Armed with her faithful camera, Chika Tikka, her headstrong friend Gwyneth and her silent but clever wit, Dimple begins an unforgettable summer that winds up where she least expects.

It's a compelling story about falling in and out of love, facing the future, and finding your roots; something we all undoubtedly struggle with.
